About the Event
History tells us that in 1782, the first wine in California was produced at Mission San Juan Capistrano. This maiden vintage was planted, harvested, and fermented by the Juaneño Band of Mission Indians.
Native Hands Wine pays homage to each Mission Tribe by offering a line of classically hand-crafted wines, each with a unique story that reflects a time, place, or ceremony honoring our ancestors and celebrating the rich traditions of the first winemakers in Alta California.
Chris A. Lobo is a 9th-generation Mission Indian, with ancestral ties to three Mission Tribes: Juaneño, Luiseno, and Diegueño. As one of the core families of San Juan Capistrano, his lineage can be traced through Mission sacramental records to at least eight village sites documented as early as 1709, before sustained contact with outsiders.
Currently, Lobo is an active citizen of the Juaneño Band of Mission Indians. His family has been intimately involved…
